Why we were recognised by KiCA for our care services

Why we were recognised by KiCA for our high-quality care services

Anyone who has been in a care-giving role will agree: caring isn’t easy. Being a Carer brings its own unique set of challenges, both physical and emotional. But it’s also incredibly rewarding, and there’s nothing we want more than to ensure our clients’ future well-being and independence.

It means so much to us when our team’s hard work is recognised, and we truly value all the support we receive from our local community. Most recently, this was felt at the Kent Integrated Care Alliance (KiCA) Awards on September 13, where we celebrated the amazing work of our team members, Vanessa and Barry.

What are the KiCA Awards?

The KiCA Awards are integral to Kent’s care scene, offering a platform to acknowledge and appreciate the dedication of those delivering high-quality care services. This gratitude is so important to carers, and these awards give us the opportunity to respect their commitment, and their efforts in making a meaningful difference in people’s lives.

KiCA includes both individuals and organisations; for Birchwood Care Services, both Barry and Vanessa were nominated. Barry, our incredible Care Coordinator, was shortlisted for the Ancillary Back Office Award, and Vanessa, one of our most dedicated carers, was nominated for the Community Care Worker Award. This was truly a testament to their amazing work, and we couldn’t have been prouder to cheer them on as they became finalists!

Why were we recognised?

Our care services span many different areas, all of which are essential for making a positive impact on the lives of our clients.

For Barry, this means coordinating the care of the clients. His work ensures all aspects of their care plan run smoothly, synced with the different providers, services and facilities that the client may require. His top-tier organisation and communication skills are essential to Birchwood Care Services, and he works hard to ensure all aspects of care are tailored to the client’s specific needs. He listens, he understands, and he puts the wellbeing of our clients at the forefront – thank you Barry!

Vanessa was recognised for her compassion and resilience when working with clients. She has provided both practical and dignified support, ensuring clients always have a companion, and a friendly face nearby. Her kindness creates an environment filled with comfort and joy for those in her care – thank you Vanessa!

Why is it important?

As carers, it’s easy to feel discouraged when facing hurdles. Sometimes it can be isolating, which only fuels those feelings of negativity and feeling under-appreciated in the difference you’re making in someone’s life.

Gratitude goes a long way, and that’s exactly what the KiCA Awards achieves. It also serves as a testament to the quality-of-care we can provide, and we are incredibly fortunate to have such a wonderful team behind us at Birchwood Care Services. Each member brings value, and a level of dedication that positively impacts those in need of our care.

This celebration also gave us an opportunity to honour the local community. During the Awards, we were lucky to share a table with East Kent Mencap, who are dedicated to supporting individuals with learning disabilities. Their work is invaluable for ensuring people with learning disabilities can achieve what they want out of life, through choice, support, and opportunity.

Overall, it was such a special evening for Birchwood Care Services, and we want to give a huge thank you to everyone who made the night so special.
