National Pet Month: how can we support your pets?

Happy Pet Month! This is a time for celebrating our furry friends, especially the joy and companionship they can bring to our lives. It’s also a month for raising awareness of responsible pet ownership, and pet care whilst caring for ourselves. Sometimes, looking after a pet can be more challenging, and it might be that you need some extra support.

So for this month, and every month, we want to highlight the benefits of pets for people who may need care, and how we can help both you and your pet make the most out of each other’s company.

Why do we love pets?

As animal lovers, we’re always here to support our clients with pets. They bring a wealth of benefits, helping improve emotional wellbeing, physical health and social connection.

Pets are a mood booster, and research has shown that animals can reduce stress levels, lower blood pressure, and even improve our sleep. When surveying a poll of 2,000 adults, Purina found that adults feel like their pets regularly help them when they’re feeling down. More than half of these adults (54%) believe spending time with animals acts as therapy. Some pets also bring two wins in one; walking a dog, for example, is a great way to boost physical health whilst lowering emotional stress.

Of course, pets may not be for you! It’s completely dependent on your time, preferences, and financial commitments. However, if you do have a furry friend, and you’re considering home care, we want you to rest assured knowing we can help care for you both.

How can we support?

As carers, we know how important routine is for promoting independence and wellbeing. Pets are an essential part of these day-to-day schedules. Feeding, exercising, and general care for a pet may be small tasks, but they can greatly contribute to our sense of purpose. Pet ownership is a big responsibility, and caring for something other than ourselves can give us a big sense of achievement.

For someone who is ageing, unwell, or has limited mobility, these daily tasks can start to cause strain. Illness can reduce mobility and strength, and meeting a pet’s needs can become harder. Impaired cognitive function can also impact memory, which can lead to accidental medication errors or forgotten litter trays.

We can offer structured, personalised support that accommodates both the pet and the owner. By completing practical, daily tasks, we can help monitor the pet’s health whilst also preserving the emotional bond between pet and carer. We’re not here to replace the owner, but to ensure our care supports both our clients and their pets. When both needs are met, the home environment can become calmer, healthier, and more fulfilling for everyone involved.

What services can we provide?

Pet care means making sure both the pet and the person stay safe, healthy and supported. This could mean the following:

  • Cleaning – this can mean cleaning cages and litter trays, as well as general clean up.
  • Household management – we can help organise vet appointments and set reminders for pet vaccinations.
  • Shopping – this includes purchasing food, treats, toys, and any other supplies your pet may need.
  • Feeding – we can help stick to daily feeding times and take into account any special dietary requirements.
  • Exercising – whether it’s helping on a dog walk, setting up a laser pointer chase for the cat, or supervising roam time with your rabbit, we can make sure both you and your pet are getting some movement in.

Our care services can extend to our client’s pets, and we want to help both you and your loved animal stay in the comfort of your own home. Our friendly team can help ensure routines are done in a supportive way, so you can always enjoy each other’s company!
