More about our care

Personal care

Our qualified carers have a wealth of experience in helping individuals with their personal hygiene. All our staff are understanding, sympathetic and respectful, of both you and your home. They can provide you will as much or as little support as you need to enable you to continue living in your own home, including: getting up and ready in the morning; bathing and washing; toileting and medical assistance; and settling in for the evening.

Domestic assistance

You want to enjoy living in your own home, and a clean and tidy house is part of that. Our cheerful and efficient staff can help you with a range of household chores so that you don’t need to worry about them. We can assist with cleaning, tidying, dusting, vacuuming, laundry, ironing and washing up.

Companionship and personal assistance

Whether you’d just like a friendly face to keep you company or help getting out and about, our enthusiastic staff can provide the companionship and support you need. We offer everything from a simple sitting service to assistance with household management, including dealing with mail and bills and making appointments. Plus your dedicated carers will escort you out and about, whether you need to see the dentist or doctor, want to visit friends or fancy a trip further afield.

Food and cooking

A balanced, nutritious diet is essential to maintaining health and wellbeing, so we offer a comprehensive range of services to help our clients make the most of their meals. We can advise on meal plans (including accommodating special dietary needs), buy ingredients and unpack them for you. Or we can take you shopping to help you choose what you are going to eat. We can help you prepare your meals or we can cook them for you – either way, we will make sure your kitchen is clean and tidy before we leave.

Respite care

It’s incredibly important for carers to get proper breaks, so they can continue to provide the care and support their loved ones need. Our professional staff can provide a simple sitting service to give you a much-needed break or let you get to an appointment, respite support including domestic or personal care for your loved one, or specialised respite care to accommodate more challenging conditions such as dementia.

Complex care

Our qualified staff are able to provide support for more complex conditions, including dementia and Alzheimer’s. We are also able to provide some medical support, including stoma and catheter care, as well as assistance with medication; we liaise with other health professional including doctors and district nurses over more complex medical conditions. Our staff are also trained in providing sympathetic palliative care.

Emergency care

We know circumstances can change rapidly, and when they do you need to find a professional, reliable solution quickly. We can often arrange care packages to start within 48 hours. During our assessment in your home we will advise on any specialist equipment or adaptations that are required to enable us to start providing you with the support you need as quickly as possible.

Convalescent care

Having the right support can be critical to helping you recover, whether you have had planned or emergency medical treatment. Birchwood Care can provide expert home from hospital care to enable you to get back to the comfort of your own home as quickly as possible and to help you recuperate successfully, so you can get back to living life to the full.
